Plain-language summary
- Atlas does not require an account and does not operate a developer server that stores your profile or country activity.
- Your favorites, watchlists, recent countries, saved comparisons, settings, Remove Ads status, and World Bank cache remain on your device.
- World Bank requests send the country code, indicator code, date range, and technical network information needed to return public statistics.
- Google may process device and advertising information when consent and applicable law allow Atlas to request an ad.
- Crash reporting is unavailable in the repository build. If enabled in a production build, it remains off until you explicitly opt in.
- Payments are handled by Google Play or Apple. Atlas does not receive your full payment-card or bank details.
Important: This summary is provided for convenience. The complete policy below controls and contains important details about providers, retention, deletion, and your choices.
1. Scope and operator
This Privacy Policy applies to the Android and iOS application Atlas - World Insights (package and bundle identifier com.azizstudios.worldinsights), referred to as “Atlas,” “the app,” “we,” or “us.” Atlas is developed and operated by Abdulaziz Jawad.
The policy covers the production application, its Privacy Center, public data features, advertising, optional diagnostics, the permanent Remove Ads purchase, sharing, and the public policy website. It does not replace the independent privacy policies of Google, Apple, the World Bank, WhatsApp, a mobile carrier, or an app you choose from the system share sheet.
Atlas is a country-intelligence and educational reference application. It presents public, country-level information and does not intentionally request your real name, email address, home address, precise location, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, health information, or government identifiers.
2. How Atlas is designed
Atlas follows a local-first design:
- No Atlas account: you do not register, sign in, or create a developer-hosted profile.
- No Atlas cloud synchronization: favorites, watchlists, recents, comparisons, theme, language, and font-size choices are not synchronized to an Atlas server.
- No developer analytics profile: Atlas does not include a developer-operated behavioral analytics service.
- Limited network use: network access is used for World Bank public data, consent-controlled advertisements, optional diagnostics if enabled and accepted, store purchases, and user-initiated external links or sharing.
The app requests Android internet and network-state permissions. It does not request Android or iOS runtime access to precise location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, call logs, or SMS.
3. Information stored on your device
Atlas uses platform application storage to remember features you request. This information normally remains within the app's private storage and is not sent to an Atlas server.
| Category | Examples | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Display preferences | Light, dark, or system theme; font-size selection; language selection | Preserve your chosen presentation and accessibility settings. |
| Saved content | Favorite country identifiers, watched indicator codes, recent country identifiers, saved two-country comparisons | Provide favorites, watchlists, recents, and saved comparisons without an account. |
| Advertising and privacy state | Locally remembered crash-reporting choice; consent status handled through Google's consent tools | Respect your privacy choices and avoid requesting ads when consent rules do not permit it. |
| Purchase entitlement | Whether the permanent Remove Ads entitlement has been recognized on this installation | Suppress banner and interstitial advertisements for owners. |
| World Bank response cache | Validated public API responses, request keys, and retrieval times | Show cached data quickly, support limited offline use, and avoid unnecessary requests. |
Searches over loaded countries and indicators are performed within the app. Atlas does not intentionally transmit your search text to the developer.
Anyone with access to your unlocked device or device backups may be able to access app data subject to operating-system protections. Device backup behavior is controlled by Android, iOS, and your device or cloud-backup settings.
4. World Bank public-data requests
Atlas contacts the World Bank API over HTTPS to retrieve public country and indicator information. A request may include:
- ISO country or economy codes;
- World Bank indicator codes;
- requested years or date ranges;
- pagination and response-format parameters; and
- ordinary connection data visible to an internet service, such as IP address, date and time, and basic request metadata.
Atlas does not intentionally add your name, contact details, favorites, device contacts, or advertising identifier to World Bank requests. The World Bank processes connection information under its own terms and privacy practices. Atlas stores successful responses in an on-device stale-while-revalidate cache. Fresh data is preferred for 24 hours; usable entries may be retained for up to 30 days and are not replaced by a failed refresh.
5. Packaged public datasets
United Nations World Population Prospects data and simplified Natural Earth country geometry are packaged with Atlas for offline use. They describe countries and populations, not app users. Reading these packaged files does not require a request to a United Nations or Natural Earth server.
Source, release, and license attributions are shown in the app's “About the data” information. Public statistics can be incomplete, revised, delayed, modeled, or projected and must not be treated as personal data about an individual.
6. Advertising and consent
When Atlas requests ads
The free version can display Google AdMob banner and interstitial advertisements. Atlas refreshes advertising-consent information through Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). The app initializes and requests advertisements only when UMP reports that ads may be requested. If consent status is unknown, unavailable, or fails to refresh without a valid previous choice, Atlas fails closed and does not request an ad.
You can revisit advertising choices from Settings → Privacy Center whenever Google indicates that a privacy-options form is required. Withdrawing consent disables active advertising requests and disposes of loaded ads. Owning Remove Ads suppresses both banner and interstitial advertisements independently of consent status.
Information Google Mobile Ads may process
According to Google's Mobile Ads SDK disclosure, the SDK may automatically collect or share:
- IP address, which may be used to estimate general location;
- user-product interactions, such as app launches, taps, and ad or video views;
- diagnostic information, such as launch time, hangs, crashes related to the SDK, or energy use; and
- device and account identifiers, which can include the resettable advertising identifier, app set ID, and identifiers associated with an account signed in on the device where applicable.
Google states that this information can be used for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention, and is encrypted in transit. The exact data used depends on device settings, region, consent, ad configuration, and Google's limited-ad behavior. You can reset or restrict the advertising identifier through your operating-system settings where supported.
The current repository configuration uses Google's official non-monetizing test ad identifiers. A store release may use production identifiers after release checks; the consent and Remove Ads controls described above remain applicable.
Atlas does not directly sell personal information for money. Advertising disclosures to Google may nevertheless be treated as “sharing,” “targeted advertising,” or a “sale” under some privacy laws. Where applicable, use the Privacy Center and device privacy controls to express your choices.
Learn more in the Google Privacy Policy, How Google uses information for advertising, and Google Mobile Ads data disclosure.
7. Optional crash reporting
Current status: Firebase Crashlytics is disabled in the repository configuration and native automatic collection is disabled. If a production build is correctly configured for Crashlytics, collection remains off until you enable “Optional crash reporting” in the Privacy Center.
When you opt in, Atlas may send a deliberately limited technical failure report to Firebase Crashlytics. Atlas attaches only a redacted event code, a broad feature label, and the technical stack needed to diagnose the failure. Atlas code is designed not to attach names, phone numbers, email addresses, country-viewing activity, searches, favorites, request URLs, World Bank response bodies, purchase tokens, raw logs, or developer-created persistent user IDs.
Crashlytics itself may automatically process technical metadata necessary to group and diagnose failures, including:
- Crashlytics installation UUID, Firebase installation ID, and session UUID;
- the app package or bundle identifier, app version, and timestamp;
- operating-system version, device model, CPU architecture, available memory and disk information, and possible root or jailbreak state; and
- stack traces and crash-state information. Native minidumps may be processed if a future build enables native crash collection.
Google states that Crashlytics stack traces and associated extracted information are retained for 90 days before the deletion process begins, while some temporary native minidump handling can be shorter. Provider practices may change, so consult Firebase Privacy and Security.
You can withdraw your choice at any time in the Privacy Center. Withdrawal stops future Atlas crash-report submissions from that installation; it cannot recall reports already transmitted and still within Firebase's retention process.
8. Remove Ads purchases
Atlas offers a permanent, non-consumable product named atlas_remove_ads. Google Play Billing or Apple's in-app purchase system displays the authoritative localized price and processes payment.
The store, not Atlas, receives and processes your full card, bank, billing-address, or store-account payment details. To start, confirm, and restore the entitlement, the app and store may process the product identifier, purchase state, transaction or order reference, purchase token or receipt, price and currency metadata, and technical verification results. Atlas stores a local entitlement flag after a valid purchase or restoration so that it can hide all ads.
Atlas does not currently ask you to create an Atlas account or intentionally attach a developer-defined account identifier to the purchase. Store purchase history and retention are controlled by Google or Apple. If server-side purchase verification is introduced before production sales, this policy will be updated before that processing begins and verification data will be limited to what is necessary to validate and preserve the entitlement.
See the Google Privacy Policy or Apple Privacy Policy for store processing.
10. WhatsApp and telephone actions
The Settings screen provides user-initiated WhatsApp and telephone icons for contacting the developer. Tapping one opens an external WhatsApp conversation or your phone dialer for +973 3408 0866. Atlas does not read your contacts or call history, send a WhatsApp message, or place a call automatically.
When you continue in WhatsApp or through a telecommunications provider, those services may process your phone number, message, call metadata, and other information under their own privacy terms. Only provide information necessary for your support request. Do not send passwords, payment-card details, government identifiers, or other highly sensitive data.
11. Service providers and disclosures
| Recipient or provider | Why information is processed | Relevant categories |
|---|---|---|
| World Bank | Return requested public country and indicator data | Country/indicator request parameters and ordinary connection metadata |
| Google AdMob and UMP | Consent management, ad delivery, measurement, analytics, and fraud prevention | Consent choices, IP/general location, interactions, diagnostics, device or advertising identifiers where permitted |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Optional stability diagnostics after opt-in | Redacted event context and technical app, installation, session, device, and failure metadata |
| Google Play or Apple App Store | Process and restore Remove Ads | Store account and payment data held by the store; product, transaction, receipt/token, status, price, and verification metadata |
| Apps you select from the share sheet | Complete your explicit sharing request | The generated image and any information you add in the destination app |
| WhatsApp or your carrier | Complete your explicit contact action | Phone number, message or call data processed by those providers |
| GitHub Pages | Host this public Privacy Policy | Ordinary website connection data, such as IP address, browser/device information, requested URL, and timestamp, under GitHub's practices |
This policy page contains no Atlas-operated analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, account forms, or JavaScript. It is hosted by GitHub Pages, so GitHub may process ordinary web-server connection data and apply its own cookies or security controls under the GitHub General Privacy Statement.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, a valid legal process, protect users or the public, investigate fraud or security issues, or protect legal rights. Because Atlas has no developer user database, the developer generally has no device-local preferences or history to disclose.
12. Purposes and legal bases
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, processing may rely on:
- Performance of a requested service: retrieving country data, creating a share image, opening a contact method, and processing or restoring Remove Ads.
- Consent: personalized or consent-dependent advertising where required, and optional crash reporting. Consent can be withdrawn for future processing.
- Legitimate interests: limited security, fraud prevention, service reliability, non-personalized advertising where permitted, and maintaining the app, balanced against user rights.
- Legal obligations: records or disclosures required by applicable law, taxation, accounting, consumer protection, or a valid legal request.
The basis that applies depends on your location, the feature, provider configuration, and applicable law. When consent is required, refusal does not block access to Atlas's public-data features; it may prevent advertising or optional diagnostics.
13. Retention and deletion
| Information | Typical retention/control | How to delete or change it |
|---|---|---|
| Preferences and saved content | Until changed, cleared, app data is erased, or Atlas is uninstalled | Remove individual favorites/watchlists/comparisons, clear recent history, or use the operating system's Clear storage/Delete app control. |
| World Bank cache | Fresh for 24 hours; usable cache retained for no more than 30 days, subject to size and corruption cleanup | Clear Atlas application storage or uninstall the app. |
| Remove Ads entitlement | Local flag remains until storage is cleared; the store retains authoritative purchase history under its policy | Clearing local storage removes the local flag; Restore Purchases can restore a valid store entitlement. |
| Advertising/consent data | Controlled by Google, UMP, device settings, and applicable law | Use Settings → Privacy Center when available, reset/restrict the device advertising ID, or use Google privacy controls. |
| Crash reports | Only after opt-in; Firebase currently describes a 90-day retention period for stack traces and associated extracted information before deletion processing | Disable future reporting in the Privacy Center. Previously sent records follow Firebase's retention process. |
| Purchase/payment records | Controlled by Google Play or Apple according to legal, fraud-prevention, accounting, and store requirements | Use the store's privacy/account tools or contact the store provider. |
| Shared images/contact communications | Atlas retains no developer-server copy; destination providers or recipients control their copies | Use the destination app/provider controls or ask the recipient, where applicable. |
Atlas does not offer account deletion because it does not create Atlas accounts. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes Atlas-controlled local data, but does not delete information already processed by a third-party provider or an image already shared to another person or app.
14. Security
Atlas uses operating-system private app storage, validates cached responses before use, isolates network parsing from the interface, uses HTTPS for World Bank and provider connections, disables automatic crash collection, and blocks advertising until the consent system permits requests. No security method is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of a device, network, app store, service provider, or recipient you choose.
Keep your operating system updated, use a device lock, install Atlas only from a trusted source, and avoid sending sensitive details through support messages.
15. International processing
Google, Firebase, the World Bank, Apple, WhatsApp, carriers, and sharing destinations may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Those countries may have different privacy laws. Each provider is responsible for its own transfer safeguards, contractual terms, and legal obligations. Review the linked provider policies for details relevant to your region.
16. Children's privacy
Atlas is a general-audience reference app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly ask children to create an account or directly submit personal information. If you believe a child has sent personal information to the developer through an external support channel, contact us so the message can be reviewed and deleted where reasonably possible.
Parents and guardians should supervise children's device, advertising, store-purchase, WhatsApp, phone, and sharing settings. A future decision to target the app to children would require a separate review of advertising SDK eligibility, store-family policies, consent, and this policy before release.
17. Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or withdrawal of consent, and to complain to a privacy regulator. These rights can be subject to legal limits and identity verification.
- Local Atlas data: use feature controls, clear application storage, or uninstall. Because this information is not synchronized to the developer, we normally cannot remotely access or delete it for you.
- Advertising: use the Privacy Center when the Google form is available and your device's advertising privacy controls.
- Crash reporting: enable or disable future reports in the Privacy Center.
- Purchases: manage payment and purchase-history rights through Google Play or Apple.
- External communications or shares: contact the relevant destination provider or recipient.
To ask a privacy question about Atlas-controlled processing, use the contact method below and specify that your request concerns “Atlas privacy.” Do not send identity documents unless we explain why they are legally necessary.
18. Third-party content and links
Atlas presents and attributes public information from the World Bank, United Nations Population Division, and Natural Earth. These providers can revise methodology, values, URLs, licenses, or availability. Atlas is not the source of their statistics and cannot guarantee that every observation is current, complete, or suitable for a particular decision.
External links leave Atlas. This policy does not govern the destination site or app. Review the destination's privacy notice before submitting information.
19. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Atlas adds or removes a data practice, provider, SDK, permission, backend, account feature, advertising configuration, purchase-verification system, or legal requirement. The “Last updated” date will change. Material changes will be communicated in the app, store listing, release notes, or another appropriate notice before they take effect where required.
You should review the policy after significant app updates. Archived versions can be identified through the public source repository's version history.
